behind the artwork
circa 2003
Hi!
Iām Elizabeth, better known as strwbmoth online. My work focuses on themes of nostalgia and calmness within nature. I often receive comments from followers that my art feels familiar or reminds them of their childhood. I am always thrilled to see feedback like this because that is what drives my art.
I went through a major move when I was 12 from Illinois to Florida. It signified the end of my innocent years and a transition into the struggle of my teenage ones. I grew up in the early 2000s which, in my opinion, is ripe with nostalgic imagery. I love scrolling through my well-documented childhood, every moment captured in grainy digital camera photos. My art is entirely inspired by that period of my life. I think about images of neon summers, scattered stuffed animals, raspberry bushes, and dark storms creeping over the fence line of my childhood home. I miss it every day, but drawing allows me to preserve small glimpses of that time.
Above all else, I am grateful for the online community that has grown around my work. It is filled with people who, sometimes beyond my understanding, deeply appreciate the art I make.
